Oxford Freshmarket was first opened in 2012, by Brett Latimer and Paul Beltramo. They purchased and refurbished an already existing store called Hanee Fresh, and provided customers with a full-sized grocery market, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as an in-house butchery. Their investment cost them R80 million, but their future success was evident when they turned over R46 million in December alone. Ten times more than the original Hanee Fresh store.

They currently have stores in Kwazulu-Natal, Durban, as well as a Liquor market in Hillcrest.

Oxford Freshmarket falls under the Groceries category along with other stores such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, Spar, Ultra Liquors, Food Lover's Market, Makro, Boxer, Cambridge Foods and Woolworths. Their trading hours are from 6h00 to 20h00 from Monday to Saturday, and 6h00 to 19h00 on Sundays and public holidays.
