Spitz was opened by Anthony and David Spitz in 1968, in the city of Johannesburg. Today, there are more than 70 stores across South Africa, in cities such as Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg, Emalahleni and Claremont. They offer customers an exclusive range of international footwear brands. 

Spitz falls under the Clothing, Footwear, Sport category, along with other stores such as Ackermans, Mr Price, Truworths, Sportsmans Warehouse, Cape Union Mart, Sportscene, Totalsports, MRP Sport, Jet and Superbalist. Their trading hours are from 9h00 to 18h00 from Monday to Friday, 9h00 to 17h00 on Saturdays and 9h00 to 15h00 on Sundays. In larger shopping malls, such as Canal Walk, they will have extended trading hours.
