Built It is part of the SPAR group, which was founded in 1932, by Dutch wholesaler, Adriaan van Well. From that first SPAR store in the 1930s, numerous followed, and by the early 2000s, they had stores in 48 countries. Today, there are other divisions in SPAR together with Build It, namely KWIKSPAR and SaveMor. In South Africa, there are more than 300 Build It stores, in cities such as Emalahleni, Pietermaritzburg, Kokstad, Reitz, Richards Bay and East London, employing more than 10000 people.

Build It falls under the Home & Garden category along with other stores such as House and Home, Coricraft, OK Furniture, Sheet Street, Builders, Cashbuild, MRP Home, Decofurn, Lewis Stores and Fair Price. Their trading hours are from 7h30 to 17h00 from Monday to Thursday and 8h00 to 14h00 on Saturdays. On Friday, they have slightly different trading hours and is open from 7h30 to 12h30 and 2h30 to 17h00. They’re closed on Sundays.
