KWIKSPAR is part of the SPAR group, which was founded in 1932, by Dutch wholesaler, Adriaan van Well. From that first SPAR store in the 1930s, numerous followed, and by the early 2000s, they had stores in 48 countries. Today, there are numerous other divisions such as KWIKSPAR, Build It, and SaveMor. In South Africa, there are more than 100 KWIKSPAR stores, in cities such as Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Stellenbosch, Pinetown and Margate.

KWIKSPAR falls under the Groceries category along with other stores such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, Spar, Ultra Liquors, Food Lover's Market, Makro, Boxer, Cambridge Foods and Woolworths. For most KWIKSPAR stores, the trading hours are from 7h00 to 21h00 from Monday to Sunday (including public holidays).
