President Hyper was founded in 1964 by George Synodinos, in Fochville, a small mining town in the West Rand. The first store started out as a small café, but by the 1990s they had already established a larger President Hyper store in Fochville. Today, they have three large branches across South Africa in Vereeniging, Krugersdorp and Fochville. Their goal is to be one of South Africa’s most affordable supermarkets, offering customers a great variety of groceries and merchandise, while keeping prices low. They seem to be achieving this goal, and as of yet, have consistently ranked as the cheapest supermarket in South Africa. This can be seen in the weekly President Hyper Specials.

President Hyper falls under the Groceries category along with other stores such as 1UP Cash & Carry, Big Save, Bluff Meat Supply, Boxer, Cambridge Foods, Check Save, Check Star, Checkers, Devland and Diamond Discount Liquors. Their trading hours are from 8h00 to 19h00 from Monday to Friday, 8h00 to 18h00 on Saturdays, and 8h00 to 17h00 on Sunday.
