Builders Warehouse is a large DIY and home improvement store, and is part of the Massbuild group. The group consists of three other brands: Builders Express and Builders Superstores (smaller neighbourhood chains selling garden and home improvement products), and Builders Trade Depot (outlets located in industrial areas, supplying building contractors). Massmart acquired Builders Warehouse stores in 2003, and today they operate more than 30 stores across South Africa, in cities such as Emalahleni, Knysna, Vredenburg, Rustenburg, Pietermaritzburg and Kokstad.
Massmart rebranded Servistar stores in 2005 to form the Builders Express. The stores are smaller and stock less variety than Builders Warehouse, but they are conveniently located, providing customers with basic home improvement products and DIY advice.
Builders Trade Depot was established when Massmart took over more than 30 Federated Timber stores, rebranding them in 2005. Builders Superstores were first opened in 2013, providing lower income groups with discounted home improvement materials.
Builders Warehouse falls under the Home & Garden category along with other stores such as Adendorff, Agrimark, Bradlows, BUCO, Build It, Cashbuild, Chamberlain, Coricraft, Crazy Plastics and Decofurn. Their trading hours are from 8h00 to 18h00 from Monday to Friday, 8h00 to 17h00 on Saturdays, and 8h00 to 16h00 on Sundays.
